Chris is the founding Principal Architect of Green Design Studio, in Yarmouth, Maine that focuses on enriching the lives of its clients by designing spaces that are beautiful, functional, energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and in harmony with their surroundings.

Chris practices what he calls “Architecture for Life”.  Put simply, it is enduring architecture that is timeless, beautiful, and long-lasting.  It is architecture that focuses on the experiences of the building’s occupants, enhancing their daily lives with natural daylight, excellent ventilation, and delightful spaces that engage their artful minds.  It is architecture that is mindful of our finite resources and respectful of the natural environment.  He believes that all projects can benefit from sustainable practices while maintaining superior design and affordability.

Some of his most current accomplishments include the first LEED Gold certified home in New England, helping to found the Maine Chapter of the USGBC, designing a LEED Platinum rated spec home in Portland, and he is currently working on a passivhaus in Saco.

Chris cares very much for his community and has been therefore active in a number of organizations such as the U.S. Green Building Council where he was a founding member of the board of directors, and aided in the creation of a Maine Chapter.  He was also formerly a board member of the Environmental and Energy Council of Maine where, he, as a regular member helps to promote the growth of energy conscious businesses and entrepreneurs.  More recently Chris has been active as a Board member of Portland Green Drinks, a local social networking organization that raises awareness of green nonprofits and orgainzations, and the Building Science Discussion Group.  Chris is also a co-host and founder of the ‘Green Architects’ Lounge’ podcast that can be found at www.GreenBuildingAdvisor.com in the blogs section, or Itunes.  You can hear him and his co-host share their Green Building experience in a most casual setting.
